Sir Alexander Macara

Dr. Macara is currently Chairman of the National Heart Forum as well as being a member of the Department of Health's Task Forces on Coronary Heart Disease and on Prevention and Inequalities.

 

He served for 23 years as an elected member of the General Medical Council, and remains an active member of the Permanent Committee of Doctors in the European Union.

 

Until his retirement in 1997 he was Consultant Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Medicine in the University of Bristol and between 1993-1998 was Chairman of the council of the British Medical Association.
