Healthcare Commission's Survey on Primary Care

The Patients Association welcomes the Healthcare Commission’s Survey. Its findings confirm what many patients have been saying for some time.

Lack of access to GP or Dentist is not a trivial matter. GPs are the gatekeepers to other NHS services, and access to them is essential for their patients.

Lack of access to may result in patients having to use costly A&E care or suffer a late diagnosis.

The Healthcare Commission’s Survey highlights the importance patients attach to their relationship with their GP. This is especially true for patients with long term or chronic illness where continuity of care is what is wanted.

A patient’s primary care is dependent solely on geography, and those who are victims of this postcode lottery may well wonder how long they must be denied fundamental choice in this way.

END.
