We are pleased that the Government has made it clear that the lead of the independent inquiry into the Lucy Letby case will work in partnership with the families.

Lady Justice Thirlwall has been appointed to lead the independent inquiry into events at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Announcing her appoint, Secretary of State, Steve Barclay said he had “raised with Lady Justice Thirlwall that the families should work with her to shape the Terms of Reference. We hope to finalise these in the next couple of weeks, so the inquiry can start the consultation as soon as possible”.

As we said in our statement of 21st of August: It is critical that the terms of reference [of an inquiry] are discussed and agreed in full partnership with the families who have been affected by Letby’s crime. Their needs and wishes must form the basis of this inquiry.
